Things people say to their Makeup Artist
I saw a video online the other day called “Shit Makeup Artists Hear” which is a parody of another hilarious video featuring Graydon Sheppard and Juliette Lewis called “Shit Girls Say” you can watch the videos at the bottom of the post. It is basically how people commonly act and what they say to Make-up Artists that work on a cosmetics counter. It is really funny and although I don’t work on a counter, I could relate to some of the stuff that she was acting out.
It really got me thinking that as a make-up artist you have to be a really good listener. This is why I love my job so much. I am fascinated by people and their stories and I ask about a million questions when I am doing someones makeup so that I can really get to know them and what they are about/what they like etc. You see when someone comes to you generally barefaced you have no clue as to what they like/dislike and it is only through questions and communication that you can really find out what they want. This is the key to being a GREAT makeup artist.
Along the way you learn some pretty intimate details! Of course I would never tell another soul the personal details/names of what they say as trust is a big part of the job, plus Ireland is so small that people would find out.
Some of the more unusual things people have shared:
1.) One person admitted to being a prostitute
2.) I have a few crossdressing clients where no one else in the world knows they do it, including their wives.
3.) I had a woman that was the mistress for 7 years!
4.) A girl was having an affair with a colleague when her husband worked in the same department.
5.) A person told me about all the work that she had done including botox, full facelift and fake boobies.
6.) Someone told me about their plans to have a sex change.
*I have literally had thousands of clients, so you couldn’t work out who is who
