This post is long overdue, but I guess, better late than never!
I attended the Irish fashion Awards 2011 a couple of weeks ago to celebrate the best of Irish Talent in the Fashion Industry. It was a great night, I was greeted with complimentary West Coast Coolers on arrival and there were some nibbles making the rounds too.
Everybody made an effort to look the part and there were beautiful dresses, coifed tresses and lovely lashes and lips on display.
I got the opportunity to speak with Faye at the end of the awards. She is a truly lovely person, really warm and spoke to many people there and patiently posed in countless photographs. I asked her what the key to her success was and she said she thinks that it is because she is passionate about what she does and enjoys it.
Here is some information from her blog on why she came up with the awards:
“Perhaps my eyes are only half open, but in most of my time working between Paris, London and elsewhere, I seem to be only one of a small handful of Irish in fashion. Of course, there is no doubt that there are some amazing Irish involved in fashion abroad. But in my mind there should be so much more. Arts and culture are perhaps our greatest strength as a nation. Being creative is in our culture. For example, disproportionately more of our authors are known the world over as compared to perhaps any other nation. But that too should be the case for Irish designers, stylists, photographers and all those involved in fashion.
Admittedly, as a moderately successful 23 year old model, I can’t do very much, but at the very least I can do a little. These awards are my little contribution to fashion in Ireland, creating another window onto Ireland to share with the world. I feel it’s important to reach back to Ireland and try to connect my peers into the world I’ve stepped into. The many incredible international judges we’ll be announcing over the coming weeks are very much part of this effort. It’s only year one, but hopefully it’s the start of something that will grow in the years to come.”
A big congratulations to Zoe Clark for winning Make-up Artist of the Year! I got to assist her eleven years ago when I was only sixteen! (I know I shouldn’t be giving my age away!)
Here are some shots from a recent PR Photoshoot that I did for the BT Young Scientist Competition 2012. I got to paint the girls like half bionic people. Bodypainting is my favourite kind of work and I wish I could do this every day
On Facebook recently, I already talked about the Photo Call I did recently for Sony Ericsson which went out in the Evening Herald and The Metro Newspapers. I thought I would just share a little video. It is just an experiment really, thinking about getting into doing some videos for the blog in the future, so watch this space…
The models are: Vinny Gough, Eva Grasse and Georgia Salpa
I know there is a recession on, so we can’t all afford to get our make-up professionally done. So I thought I would put together a few suggestions for a party ready look.
1. False Lashes – You have to make sure that your eyes stand out, one way of doing this is to wear false eyelashes. I absolutely love the Glamour Lashes from Eyelure’s Naturalites Range. They are lightweight enough to wear into the little hours, but really long and have a nice subtle flick at the ends.
2. Eye Candy – There is nothing like a bit of glitter to make your eyes sparkle. MAC Cosmetics had a great selection of glitters and pigment sets at Christmas, if you were lucky enough to get your hands on some, definitely bring it out tonight! Use a bit of eye sealer to ensure that it stays in place, check out Illasmasqua.
3. Some Red Lippy – Make a dramatic statement for New Years Eve! Go all out and make the eyes and lips stand out. I love Chanel’s selection of blue red lipsticks, they are great for the Irish skin tone.
I hope that the New Year brings you lots of JOY and HAPPINESS! Have a fantatic night out xx
Here is a little test I did with the airbrush, just wanted to see how the colours lasted. I am using Graftobian F/X Aire Colours in Blue and White with the Graftobian Magic Set on top.
So far it is transfer resistant and quite matt, looks like it might just last the day. I am going to go outside and see how it holds up to the rain
I will have some step by step instructions of the AVATAR MAKEUP soon.
Did this photoshoot recently for Aliquo Boutique’s Autumn/Winter collection of Jewellery for The Loft in the Powerscourt Centre. The designer is Alice Moyon and she creates feminine, delicate, pretty pieces of art. I particularly love the drop necklace with the bow and gorgeous hand painted black bead. The brief for make-up was something really simple and refined that reflected the autumn/winter feel of the shoot. We decided to keep the palette pale, shiny and opalescent, which complimented the black, antique gold and blue colours of the jewellery beautifully.
I was asked to do a high profile quiz event in Clontarf Castle last Thursday. The event was in aid of the charity “To Russia With Love” to raise much needed funds.
Here are some behind the scenes photographs, some professional shots will follow soon. The model was David Mulqueen a personal trainer/director from The Edge Clontarf, a personal training facility based in Clontarf. I am no expert, but I think he might be good at his job if his abs are anything to go by.
Some nice shots from a photoshoot that I did recently in D Studios just off Camden Street in Dublin. Was a great team to work with and I hope to have a video of the shoot soon.
