IFTAs 2011 Beauty & Style Report

Sinead Kennedy Make-Up IFTAs 2011

sinead-kennedy-close-up make-up

Every year I am slightly disappointed at the safe choices made by the majority of the attendees. Saying that this year I was absolutely in love with Sinead Kennedy’s Style. My favourite look from the night, she has broken the usual rule of playing up one feature. Sinead has gone all out with not only a sultry red lip, but also a dramatic dark rimmed eyeliner with flick. I also absolutely love her curls which cascade across her head like a flood of waves.

Laura Whitmore Vintage Make-Up

Laura Whitmore looked fantastic on the night, she seemed to be channelling the same classic beauty as seen on January Jones in Mad Men. This 50s style is so glamorous it has stood the test of time and looks as fresh today as it did back then.

Amy Hubberman Makeup Full Length Pic

Amy Hubberman Close up Make-Up Picture

Amy Huberman, was also worth a mention. Although Amy wore quite a safe make-up look, it is beautiful and would be a perfect bridal look. Soft pink lipstick and a black eyeliner with defined brows to help frame the face.

Charlene McKenna Make-Up Artist

I love the matt red lippy which had a burnt copper undertone that Charlene McKenna was sporting. I worked with her recently and I have to say she is a fantastic vibrant personality which is truly infectious.

Kim Cattrall Make-Up

I also thought I should mention Kim Cattrall who was looking fantastic! It is hard to believe that she is 54! I wish I had her figure and she is double my age. I am also delighted that she hasn’t given into the pressures of the limelight and got major surgery to turn back the hands of time. She said in an interview: “…I don’t want to be 20 any more or even 30 or 40. Besides, I’m too terrified to get any proper work so I’ve had just little things done. I have a big crease between my eyebrows and I use Botox to get rid of that, but that’s kind of it. I’m scared of surgery because I don’t want to look in the mirror and not recognise who’s looking back. I don’t want to be in a room, and to have people turn when I leave and say, “what happened?”

Carl Barat Music Video Make-up

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

This is the make-up for the music video set in Dublin that I did with Carl Barat last year. We filmed it in one of the oldest pubs in Dublin, The Brazen Head. It was a pretty extreme day as they got all the people to talk about their lost loves. It meant that we filmed a whole load of people talking about their experiences and some really sad, harrowing tales of losing loved ones. The people divulged some pretty personal stories, everything from death, hurt, cheating on a partner to miscarriages.

Carl Barat Music Video Make-Up

Carl seemed to be really sympathetic and genuinely moved by everybody’s story. It made me think that these kind of tales were exactly what he was trying to channel in this song. He was very appreciative of every person telling their individual tale.

The day itself flew by and it was great getting to work with a professional team from London. I hope to work with the gang in Agile Films again in the future as they seem to be doing loads of interesting projects.

Makeup Artist Award

I was delighted a few days ago to be informed that I was awarded 6th place in the 40 Best Make-Up Blogs. This was extraordinarily surprising as there are some beauty blog heavyweights in the mix, including top celebrity make-up artists Lisa Eldridge and Victoria Stiles. These are make-up artists that  aspire to be like, so it is absolutely amazing that I have ended up on the same list.

Here is the article below as seen on http://www.webdesignschoolsguide.com/library/40-best-makeup-artist-blogs.html:

40 Best Makeup Artist Blogs

A talented makeup artist can transform a person into someone or something completely different, whether it’s for beauty, costume or just for the sake of art. Their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed, particularly in the movie industry, where the best are honored with awards such as the Academy Award for Makeup. Like with any form of art, it takes quite a bit of studying and practice to master the craft. The 40 makeup artist blogs listed below provide an abundance of information for those looking to enter the profession or just cultivate a challenging hobby.

Celebrity Makeup Artists

These makeup artists have achieved rewarding careers in the movie and fashion industries because of their unique talents.

  9. The Amy Face: Amy offers “random musings and beauty tips.”
  10. Audrey Mansfield: Audrey is the makeup artist for NBC’s Sunday Night Football — if she can make ex-pro football players look good, you know she’s a master of her craft.

These makeup artists may have worked with celebrities, but aren’t completely immersed in the Hollywood scene.

  1. ProMakeupBlog: Jessica studied makeup artistry in film and photography at the Make-up Designory in Los Angeles, and eventually earned her degree in communication from UC-Santa Barbara. Her blog is well-written with tons of insight.

Behind the Scenes: Make-Up Craig Doyle

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

Craig decided he would like to do my make-up for a change :-)

I love doing the make-up for RTE’s “The Panel”, it is always good craic and there are such varied guests, I never know who I am going to meet! I have worked with Jason Donovan, Charlie Boorman, Chris Eubank, John Aldridge, Caprice, Fionnuala Flanagan just to name a few. It certainly has led to some very interesting conversations.

Jewellery Photoshoot for Aliquo Boutique

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Did this photoshoot recently for Aliquo Boutique’s Autumn/Winter collection of Jewellery for The Loft in the Powerscourt Centre. The designer is Alice Moyon and she creates feminine, delicate, pretty pieces of art. I particularly love the drop necklace with the bow and gorgeous hand painted black bead. The brief for make-up was something really simple and refined that reflected the autumn/winter feel of the shoot. We decided to keep the palette pale, shiny and opalescent, which complimented the black, antique gold and blue colours of the jewellery beautifully.

Behind the Scenes: Charity Bodypainting

Friday, July 9th, 2010

I was asked to do a high profile quiz event in Clontarf Castle last Thursday.  The event was in aid of the charity “To Russia With Love” to raise much needed funds.

Here are some behind the scenes photographs, some professional shots will follow soon. The model was David Mulqueen a personal trainer/director from The Edge Clontarf, a personal training facility based in Clontarf. I am no expert, but I think he might be good at his job if his abs are anything to go by.
