Real Brides: Yvonne Gleeson

Dublin Wedding Makeup

This wedding really stood out as unique. Yvonne and Cillian were having a really intimate wedding with just five people in attendance! Not only that, the bride and groom stayed in the same house the night before, so all the usual traditions were not necessarily the order of the day. It was really beautiful and you could tell that the most important thing was their love for each other and at the end of the day that is what weddings are all about! I think if I was getting married I would probably go with a small wedding too!

Yvonnes makeup was kept classic and pretty, with a bit of natural definition around the eyes, we really played them up with some MAC False Eyelashes, which had a nice flick at the outer corners. Lips were kept nude with a lovely Laura Mercier gloss in Pink Champagne on top.

Her hair was done in a hairdressers earlier that morning, Yvonne kept them fresh with this hairnet which looks so vintage in all the photos! The curls had dropped a little too much, so we gave them a bit of a pep with my curling wand, which I always carry to weddings just incase!

Behind the Scenes: RTE’s Shopping from Home

I was asked to do the make-up for the Shopping from Home Informercial the other day, working with the fabulous Kathy Hoffman. It is a television programme on RTE which sells products that you can buy from the comfort of your own home.

My Professional Makeup Kit – Part 1

I have been threatening to do a post of what is in my kit for ages, but there is so much that it takes forever to go through. I often clean my kit as make-up by its very nature is very messy. The last time I was giving it a spring clean I decided to do an invintory and take some pictures, so here they are. This is the first in the series.

Sometimes keeping it simple can be so beautiful don’t you think? I really want to do more shots like this where the make-up is subtle and pretty. What do you prefer?

Carl Barat Music Video Make-up

This is the make-up for the music video set in Dublin that I did with Carl Barat last year. We filmed it in one of the oldest pubs in Dublin, The Brazen Head. It was a pretty extreme day as they got all the people to talk about their lost loves. It meant that we filmed a whole load of people talking about their experiences and some really sad, harrowing tales of losing loved ones. The people divulged some pretty personal stories, everything from death, hurt, cheating on a partner to miscarriages.

Carl Barat Music Video Make-Up

Carl seemed to be really sympathetic and genuinely moved by everybody’s story. It made me think that these kind of tales were exactly what he was trying to channel in this song. He was very appreciative of every person telling their individual tale.

The day itself flew by and it was great getting to work with a professional team from London. I hope to work with the gang in Agile Films again in the future as they seem to be doing loads of interesting projects.

Makeup Review: Coastal Scents Palettes

Coastal Scents 88 Colour Make-Up Palette

I have ALOT of MAC Make-up in my kit, a total of four palettes with 12 pans in each, that works out at 48 colours and that doesn’t include my pigments, other branded palettes and glitters.

However I do find that occasionally these colours are not enough especially when I am doing creative photoshoots. It is for that reason that I keep a coastal scents eyeshadow palette in my kit at all times.

There are no less than 88 colours in this nifty palette! It is a super thin, lightweight palette that does not take up that much space in your kit especially considering how many colours are in it. The actual eyeshadows have a good pigment, but it varies from colour to colour. I do think you have to be a bit more cautious when applying this eyeshadow as there is quite alot of fall out. To get around this I usually apply my eyeshadow first and clean up under the eyes before applying the concealer and eyeshadow.

Best Make-Up Artist Blogs

Makeup Artist Award

I was delighted a few days ago to be informed that I was awarded 6th place in the 40 Best Make-Up Blogs. This was extraordinarily surprising as there are some beauty blog heavyweights in the mix, including top celebrity make-up artists Lisa Eldridge and Victoria Stiles. These are make-up artists that  aspire to be like, so it is absolutely amazing that I have ended up on the same list.

Here is the article below as seen on http://www.webdesignschoolsguide.com/library/40-best-makeup-artist-blogs.html:

40 Best Makeup Artist Blogs

A talented makeup artist can transform a person into someone or something completely different, whether it’s for beauty, costume or just for the sake of art. Their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed, particularly in the movie industry, where the best are honored with awards such as the Academy Award for Makeup. Like with any form of art, it takes quite a bit of studying and practice to master the craft. The 40 makeup artist blogs listed below provide an abundance of information for those looking to enter the profession or just cultivate a challenging hobby.

Alternative Photoshoot

Did a photoshoot with the talented Phantom FM Radio Presenter Laura Lee-Conway. We headed out to the IFSC to do an alternative photoshoot. It was good fun except for at one stage poor Laura was groped by an over eagre teenager from the area, it was pretty funny! If she wasn’t in so much shock I am sure he would have got a smack :)
