I work with Mairead regularly on the panel, she likes the way that I make her eyes nice and smokey and her skin flawless. When she was asked to do an interview for Prudence magazine recently, she requested that I do her make-up. I was absolutely delighted of course. Here are a couple of images from the shoot, to see more, get this months edition of Prudence in your local shop.

Prudence asked me to breakdown the look for their “Pruzine” it is a newsletter that they send out to subscribers of their website. Here is the article that I wrote:
We wanted to create the perfect party ready look for Mairead. She loves to play up her eyes, so we decided to go for an intense smokey eye. I used MAC Fluideline eyeliner in “Blacktrack” all over the socket of the eye as a base. This helps to create a deep colour and makes your eye make-up last all day without creasing. I pressed in MAC’s frosted eyeshadow in “Mulch”. I blended this out with a Dior grey eyeshadow from one of their quad palettes. I lined the inner rim of her eyes with Urban Decays 24/7 eyepencil in “Zero”. I used Eyelure’s Naturalite false eyelashes to create a voluminous, wide eye effect. These are perfect for contact lense wearers, because they are lightweight. I ensured that her skin looked flawless with the airbrush, to recreate that look at home I like Make-Up Forever’s HD Foundation, it gives a similar soft diffused glow. I changed the lip for each look, showing how you can make a look versatile by changing just one aspect. A peach colour gives a fresh youthful feeling whilst the red lippy gives a more dramatic sensual look.

Prudence Tip 1:
When doing a smokey eye start with the eyes first. It means you can clean up any fall out, but also more importantly, it will stop you wasting concealer and foundation under the eyes where you don’t need it.
Prudence Tip 2:
Prep the lips first with Lucas Paw Paw Ointment, it is a secret weapon from Australia, it is reasonably priced, but is like a lip job in a tube, it makes your lips full, plump and hydrated. http://www.pawpawstore.co.uk/

I was asked to do an interesting photoshoot the other day. It was a nude shoot for the band, Beoga. They posed with musical instraments being the only thing to cover their modesty. It was for the launch of the Tradfest, Dublin’s premier celebration of traditional music and culture. The images were picked up by a few of the national papers namely: The Irish Independent, The Irish Examiner, The Star, The Irish World, Foinse and The Metro Herald. It was a bit of a laugh and I think they really captured the fun nature of the festival.

I was asked to design a make-up that was Lady Gaga Style for Brian. This is the original concept below:

The design included FOUR sets of false eyelashes! Three on top and one on the bottom about 3mm below his natural eyeline. I then used white eyeliner to white out his eyeline and natural lashes so that his eyes looked freakishly bigger.

Did this photoshoot recently for Aliquo Boutique’s Autumn/Winter collection of Jewellery for The Loft in the Powerscourt Centre. The designer is Alice Moyon and she creates feminine, delicate, pretty pieces of art. I particularly love the drop necklace with the bow and gorgeous hand painted black bead. The brief for make-up was something really simple and refined that reflected the autumn/winter feel of the shoot. We decided to keep the palette pale, shiny and opalescent, which complimented the black, antique gold and blue colours of the jewellery beautifully.

I have been talking to a few people in the Transgender/Cross Dressing Community of late and there seems to be a real need for a make-over service similar to The Boudoir Dressing Service in London theboudoironline.com
This is something that I would love to do, so if there is anyone out there that needs help and advice with creating your perfect look, please get in touch. I can do the Make-Over for you, teach you the skills so you can do it yourself, help with shopping and wigs etc.

Did a photoshoot with the talented Phantom FM Radio Presenter Laura Lee-Conway. We headed out to the IFSC to do an alternative photoshoot. It was good fun except for at one stage poor Laura was groped by an over eagre teenager from the area, it was pretty funny! If she wasn’t in so much shock I am sure he would have got a smack

I did the makeup for a photoshoot a couple of months ago for a really good friend of mine Alice Collins. She is a talented and creative textile artist based in Dublin. She also handmakes a range of unique jewellery and accessories.
These images are of dresses that she made as part of a work of art. It is an attempt to address the emotional and physical trauma suffered by Irish women under the lawless ‘care’ of Dr. Michael Neary in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda during the 1980s and 90s.
Just incase you don’t know who he is, here is a link to an RTE Article and a brief synopsis from Wikipedia below:
“Michael Neary is a retired Irish consultant obstetrician/gynaecologist. He gained notoriety when it was discovered that he had performed what was considered an inordinate number of cesarean hysterectomies during his time at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, County Louth. He was suspended by the Irish Medical Council in 1999 pending their investigations, and then struck off the Register of Medical Practitioners in 2003.”
