Beauty News: Katie Perry Hair and Makeup at the Grammy Awards

Katy Perry at the Grammy Awards 2013

I just received this press release, so I thought I would share it with you in my Beauty News section this week. Katie Perry was rocking the Rimmel London Look at the Grammy Awards.

Jake Bailey is Katy’s go to make-up artist and gave her a gorgeous and elegant make-up look. Known for her outlandish hair and make-up experiments, Katy went for a much more subdued demure look. Focusing on the eyes mainly, Jake began by using Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in Black to define her lashline.

He then used Rimmel Glameyes Trio Eye Shadow in Orion to give them subtle definition and completed the eyes with some false eyelashes and a generous coat of Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara in Black.

Jake then perfected Katy Perry’s skin by mixing Rimmel BB Cream in Light with Rimmel’s Match Perfection Foundation in Ivory.

The BB cream helps to sheer out the foundation and gives it a gorgeous glow perfect for the red carpet or any event. I like to do this for photoshoots when I am trying to give the appearance of dewy fresh skin, when the model has good skin themselves and I don’t need too much coverage. To warm up Katy’s face he then added the finishing touch of Rimmel Lasting Finish Blush in Pink Rose on the apple of her cheeks which gives a very subtle pinch of colour to her face.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in #003 was the lipstick used. This is a fantastic nude, which is perfect when you are trying to keep the focus on someones eyes. All Rimmel products are really easy to find all over Ireland from local chemists to Boots.

Her hair was blow dried straight, with an emphasis on volume. I love this GHD Root Lift spray when I am trying to create a fuller style. You can get it  at Terence Paul a site in the UK.

What do you think of this look?

Lots of love,

What is in my Kit: Eyes Part 2

Professional Make-up Kit Mascaras, Eyeliners and other products for eyes

So a couple of years ago I had started to do a “What’s in my Kit” series, but got distracted by something sparkly and never finished it. Needless to say my kit has grown substantially since then, so I guess I should probably start again. So I was thinking I would finish off where I left off and then do a current post about the ones that I had already done. Not sure if that makes any sense!

Anyway, here is goes. This is one of my make-up bags dedicated to EYES! There are three in total. I currently use a Zuca Bag and have done so for years. I love the way that it is so easy to roll around. Mine is extremely heavy though because I have so many products, so I have decanted alot of products to try and reduce the weight. More on that later….

I know I have alot of mascaras right? I am kinda on the search for the holy grail of mascaras and have been trying nearly every single one on the market. I still feel like there could be a better one out there. Any suggestions do let me know.

So what do you have in your kit? Is it similar? I would love to hear from you.

Holidays! – Part 2

Make-up for my holidays

So last week I did a post about what skincare I brought with me on my holidays. Well this is just a little update to that post. Here is what make-up I brought with me. I didn’t actually bring that much as I knew I would be buying heaps of make-up in Sephora and Rickys. You will have to come back later this week for more on that, think I went a little overboard!!

EYES
MAC Brule – A great neutral base for any eye look
MAC Taupe – I love this colour to as a base on the socket
MAC Mulch – I use this on the outer corners of my eye, it has a little shimmer, so is really easy to blend
MAC Brun – I use this for more intensity when I want it really smokey, also use in underneath the bottom lash line
Georgio Armani Eyes to Kill No.24 – This is a FANTASTIC eyeshadow that can be used on its own. It creates a gorgeous intense smokey eye, with gold shimmer, really easy to blend and just does not budge! I wore it for a themed 1920s night, when we went to a Speak Easy in San Francisco called Bourbon & Branch, you should check it out if you are ever in San Fran!
Bodyshop Cubes – These are my everyday go to staple, great used dry, but can be used wet too, for a more intense finish.
Bodyshop Navy Blue Eyeliner Pencil – Great for day or night and can be smudged out with the handy blender.
MAC Blacktrack – This is a fail safe, I can’t live without my black gel liner, perfect for flicks that wont budge.
Mabelline Falsies Mascara – Busy trialing this mascara for a blog post, its actually really good.
MAC Painterly Paint Pot - This is the only thing that stops my eyeshadow creasing.
Active Cosmetics False Eyelashes – For when I am really dressing up.

LIPS
BECCA Vendela Lipstick – I love wearing this during the day time as it is a lovely sheer rose colour, also it hydrates my lips and smells like cocoa butter, seriously good enough to eat!
Rouge d’Armani Lipstick 400 – The most beautiful velvet creamy demi matt red lipstick. I wore this for my 1920s look pared with the smokey eye.
Rimmel Vinyl Gloss in Be Famous – Fantastic when you want a pop of colour during the day time, really freshens up your whole look

FACE
YSL Touche Eclat Foundation – The gel formula means that it blends really well, also gives me a radiant finish without making me shiny looking, although I do need to powder it during the day.
MAC Pro Studio Finish Concealer in Orange and NW15 - I have quite dark circle, used in conjunction with each other, they work miracles!
MAC Blot Powder – Perfect for mattifying my skin on a hot day.
MAC Mineralise Skin Finish – If you find you need a little extra coverage this is great on top of your foundation.
Clarins Colour Accents – I do light contouring with this silky powder, can be used as a blusher too.
Benefit Coralista – I love the colour of this blusher, but it really doesn’t last! I just brought it with to try and finish it, seems to last forever.

BRUSHES
Royal & Langnickel Silk Pro Foundation Brush – Nice and big, so can be used for body make-up too
No.7 Eyeshadow Blending Brush – The short handles are great for popping in my handbag, soft anf fluffy for blending
Crown Brush Eyeliner Brush – Use this for filling in my eyebrows with eyeshadow
Bodyshop Eyeshadow Brush – To apply the eyeshadow
Art & Hobby Shop Paint Brush – For applying gel liner, find they are alot more longwearing than make-up brushes

So I think that was quite a restrained amount of make-up to bring on holidays. What do you think? Would you bring as much, the same or alot more? Love to hear from you.

Lots of love,

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation

Rimmel Foundations

I have long been a fan of Rimmel’s Recover foundation. So when I heard that there was a new offering in the range I thought I would check it out. The Wake Me Up Foundation had a lot to live up to if it was going to beat my cult classic.

I am delighted to report that it knocked its socks off! I couldn’t believe the great price at €6.95 in my local pharmacy! Such good value, but I think that this might have been an introductory price. It is a beautiful lightweight foundation with buildable coverage and where the Recover foundation had quite large reflective particles, Wake me Up is much more of a natural glow. This is the perfect foundation for this time of year as our skin can look a little fatigued after the long winter.

I would normally be Ivory, but I thought that it looked quite pink on me, so I opted for the True Ivory which is more of a neutral tone. It matches my face perfectly, but because my neck is a little paler, I do have to blend between the two with a bit of bronzer.

Georgia Salpa and Tara O’Farrell Creatures of the Night

As you might have seen on twitter I got to do a few Halloween makeups this year. Not as many as in previous years because I have been really busy working on The Savage Eye 3 (will post about that in the future).

I did Tara O’Farrell and Georgia Salpa’s makeup for the Creatures of the Night Photocall for Miller.

Halloween Makeup Creatures of the Night

It was a sultry scary look that compromised of a black smokey eye, blood red lips,  paired with freaky yellow contacts and vampire fangs.

We had hoped that it would hit one or two newspapers, but we lucked out as it made it into the Sun, Metro, Mirror and Star. We even got a front cover!

To create the look I used:

Graftobian HD Airbrush Foundation in Dessert Sand
Contoured with a darker shade airbrush colour
MAC Skin Finish Powder in Dark for additional contouring
MAC Blacktrack Gel Liner
Nars Night Breed Eyeshadow
Rimmel Black Eyeliner on the lips
Lancome L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick in Red
Lancome Hypnose Mascara in Black
