Draw on Your Nails with New Chalkboard Manicures

There is nothing worse than nails on a chalkboard, but what about a chalkboard on your nails? I absolutely love the idea of this, think it could even be a cute way to show the world how you are feeling by writing little notes on your nails. UK nail company Ciaté which brought the caviar and velvet nails are  making the most of our nail obsession and are trailblazing the industry with their new “Chalkboard Manicure” kit.

ciate chalkboard nails, nails,

I am dying to try this new kit which includes a matte black polish, four nail art pens that have a chalky finish, a matte top coat, and an inspirational look book. The great thing about this kit is that it emulates a chalkboard in so much as you can use the nail art pens to draw designs, if you fancy a change, you can rinse off the designs with water and try something else. When you are happy with the look, or if you want to make it longer lasting you can use the matte top coat to seal in your design.

What do you think? Are you a fan?

Lots of love,

Product Spotlight: Barbara Carranza Pro Brow Designer

tweezers

I was reading the Pixiwoo blog recently when I saw a review of these oddly shaped tweezers, I read on with interest and spectisim. They seemed to like them anyway, so I was delighted when Barbara got in touch and asked if I would like to try them.

I must say I was presently surprised. I am not one for plucking my own eyebrows, preferring instead to leave it to the professionals. I am a while between visits, so it was the perfect opportunity to try the latest advances in tweezer technology out on my rather bushy unruly brows.

I found that it is super sharp and precise, I was able to only pull out the exact hair that I wanted ensuring that I didn’t accidently overpluck. I also found the grip and handling of the tweezers very comfortable and ergonomic. This is the next generation of tweezers and I am impressed.

I highly recommend them and they have taken firm place in my kit. Pixiwoo also recommended them for applying false eyelashes. I am more of a hands on person when it comes to lashes, but if you prefer tweezers, these might be handy as the wider section makes it easier to pick them up.

Let me know what you thin and whether you will be trying them.

Lots of love,

Hi Beauty Lovers,

Hope you are keeping well. This has been a fantastic year so far and I feel like it is just whizzing by! It has seen me travelling alot over and back from London a few times as well as Marbella! In February one of my trips was for the Professional Beauty Awards, I was a finalist for the Make-up Professional of the Year UK & Ireland. I will tell you more about that next time. While I was in London, they asked me to be a floor judge for the Warpaint Professional Beauty London Competition with fellow make-up artists Gary Cockerill and Paul James Merchant. Product Spotlight: Human Kind All-in-one Body Oil

body_oil_460_wide

Hello fellow beauty lovers,

Just looking outside my window now and the Irish weather is back to form! It is bucketing down with rain. When I started writing this post I had the summer in mind as it was gorgeous and sunny, but this sudden turn has put paid to that :-)

As you may have seen on twitter and facebook I was recently flown to Marbella for a photoshoot for the tanning brand Cocoa Brown. The make-up had to be really bronzed and glowing indicative of the summer feeling, which would compliment the models Cocoa Brown Tan.

Real Brides: A Vintage 50s Twist

50s style bridal hair and makeup

I love this wedding that I did a couple of years ago. Eleanor was a bride who knew exactly what she wanted and had a theme that was really well thought out and very pretty. She wanted to go for a vintage feel with a modern twist. She opted for a 50s style tea dress, which looked fabulous on her small frame. The fun length really worked with her personality, as you can see from the pictures, she was having a blast! I can honestly say that she didn’t mind if it rained because she had this beautiful umbrella to play with :-)

Daft Punk: Random Access Memories – Get Lucky

Daft Punk Random Access Memories

I interrupt your regular make-up viewing for some great news!! It is no secret I am a HUGE Daft Punk fan and have pretty much all of their albums. If there was a movie made about my life, they would be the theme tune to my college years!

Anyway I thought I would share this looped mix of one of their songs that is yet to be released which a fan put together.

You can also see this interview with Pharrell Williams where he talks about the collaboration. Can’t wait for this album.

If you would like to pre-order this album you can do so here: http://www.daftpunk.com/

Do you love Daft Punk? If there was going to be a movie about your life what songs would be in the theme tune?

Lots of love,

Career Corner: Choosing a Makeup School

home-montage-session-2012

Hello fellow beauty lovers!

I hope you are all keeping well and it isn’t too cold, wherever you may be. Here in Ireland it is absolutely freezing and is now snowing in March! Just when you would expect the weather to be getting warmer. Today I thought I would start another new series seeing as I am trying to put a bit of structure to my beauty ramblings.

You can now search through past articles under the following headings:

Beauty Lowdown: Advice on the best products for your skin, tutorials, information and much more.
Beauty News: The latest headlines from the beauty world.
Behind the Scenes: On set pictures and my day to day life as a makeup artist.
Spotlight Series: BrandsCounter Reviews, Products Reviews, Salon Reviews etc
Make-up Inspiration: Where I look at some of my favourite artists from around the world.
My Work: The professional images and videos of my work
Weddings: Everything wedding and bridal related.

The latest addition to these categories is the Makeup Career Corner: Hints and tips about becoming a professional makeup artist including What’s in My Kit.

The reason for my starting this section is that one of the most popular posts on my blog is How to become a Makeup Artist. I also get emails every day from people hoping to become make-up artists and want to help them in the pursuit of their dream.

So the topic of today’s post is make-up schools and how to choose the best school for you. I want to start with the first question you should ask yourself and then will continue with further questions in later posts…

1.) What type of make-up would you like to do?

Beauty & Bridal Make-up

If you are hoping to do beauty and bridal make-up only, then a good idea is to get a basic course, this can be 1 month long or shorter. Here you will just be learning the basics, from skin types to eye and faceshapes. Make sure that they have a curriculum and that they cover everything that they say they will on the course. They should also include notes so that you can look back on them after the course if you have any questions.

The main thing is to play with as many different products as possible and practise. Some colleges that run these courses are as follows:

www.theinternationalmakeupacademy.com

Fashion Make-up:

If you would like to get into fashion make-up then I highly recommend that you go to one of the fashion capitals of the world to study. I am talking about London, Milan, Paris or New York. Here you will find courses that are right in the heart of the fashion industry and have working insiders as tutors.

After you have completed your course, it is best to stay in touch with the latest trends and products, by doing refresher courses and masterclasses. MAC do a number of masterclasses throughout the year to keep pro artists in the know.

www.fashion.arts.ac.uk
www.aofmakeup.com

Film & Television

If you would like to get into this type of work I really recommend a course from 1 year as a bare minimum and a 3 year course as the optimum time to study. There is alot involved in this type of make-up from beauty to makeup through the ages, to wigs and prosthetics, it is best to be confident in everything if you would like to succeed.

www.iadt.ie

Theatre

I think the best way to train in theatre is to become an apprentice or do a theatre costume, hair and makeup course. Wigs are really important to know if you want to work in theatre.

So they are my first recommendations in series, the next question I will be asking is: “Who is teaching the course?”. So be sure to check back.

Lots of love,

My Work: Get Bulb Commercial

It has been a funny year already this year, as I have had the opportunity to work with five different people from my Panel days already this year! You heard about Neil Delamere in There is Something About Patrick. Well another of these projects was this advert for an Inphographics Design Company called Get Bulb. I got to work with Seamus the producer of the Panel and Diarmuid who was one of the researchers. Another blast from the past on set was the main character Kevin, who I actually worked with on a feature film I did last year called Flat Lake (The Tale of Honkey McSuine).

I love the way that companies are taking notice of all aspects of media including video. The purpose of which is not only to be informative, but to deliver the core branding ideals. Get Bulb is Obviously a fun company and their product makes your life easier and more enjoyable. Check it out for yourself and let me know what you think.

Lots of Love,
